 ABSTRACT

This paper outlines the intersection of whistleblower protection laws and media regulations pertaining to the challenges and opportunities presented by the digital age. With an overview of the international benchmarks, the paper gives a brief account of the Whistle Blowers Protection Act, 2014 and assess its limitations in the modern world. Further, the paper delves into role of traditional and digital media in disseminating whistleblower revelations along with relevant case studies like Edward Snowden and Cambridge Analytica whistleblower. The study sheds light on the legal and ethical dilemmas faced by journalists when reporting on whistleblower cases, including confidentiality concerns and the risk of defamation. In the light of media ethics and whistleblowing, the paper addresses the journalistic responsibility to verify whistleblower claims and ethical obligations to maintain source confidentiality while avoiding biases and sensationalism in whistleblower reporting. The paper seeks to examine the role of digital media and technology pertaining to the risks of social media in whistleblower protection and the use of blockchain and other technologies as tools for anonymous disclosures. With a thorough examination of the intricacies of whistleblowers protection and media, the paper proposes a specialized whistleblower-protection agencies for strengthening whistleblower protections in India and implementation of clearer guidelines on ethical reporting of whistleblower cases. Towards the end, the paper highlights the significance of balancing transparency with accountability and ethics and A advocates for a more inclusive and nuanced collaboration between whistleblowers, the media, and policymakers.
